* Once again the upcoming Wimpy Kid volume secures the top spot on the comics chart, and moves up to #7 on the overall chart. The Scott Pilgrim volumes are at #62, #65, #68, #69, and #74. Those are a rise on the SP positions from last week, as Amazon has discounted all of the volumes at over 50% (perhaps signaling a large amount of stock that they are trying to move?) Wimpy Kid Dog Days sets the overall chart gap by placing at #256. The 50th item on the list this week clocks in at #3,036 on the overall chart, another significant improvement from last week.
* There is a sudden interest in volumes of Marvel's Runaways this week. With a film adaptation scheduled to film in March next year, we can assume perhaps that casting calls went out in Hollywood this week? Or more likely the series has gotten a boost from a review on NPR a couple of days ago.
* The top new book to make a debut this week is Mike Mignola's The Amazing Screw-On Head, followed by New Avengers: Siege and Red Robin: Collision.

* On the overall list, Wimpy Kid moves up to #10, while the Scott Pilgrim volumes slip to #75, #83, #89, #100 & #107. Persepolis is at #352, while the last book in the top 50 is at #4,457 on the overall list. (This is again a rise from last week's #5,185.)

Commentary:
* Scott Pilgrim may have flopped at the box office, but his comics defy the expected wisdom and continue to sell well, even better than before the movie was released. Book 1 retakes the top spot on the chart and currently sits at #11 on the overall. The other volumes sit at #15, 16 & 19. Lost at Sea also returns to the chart at #17. Wimpy Kid #5 slides to #5 on the chart (#28 overall). (The next on the comics chart, Persepolis, is #355 overall, which gives you an idea of just how much Scott Pilgrim & Wimpy Kid are ruling over all others right now).
* Blackest Night seems to be losing its luster, with only two of its hardcover volumes charting this week. Interest in Walking Dead remains strong.
* The only debut this week is Mark Criley's Brody's Ghost at #40.

What's Happening with DC's Kids Comics? Part II
- Although they didn't appear in the online solicitations, both Tiny Titans and the Tiny Titans/L'il Archie comics showed up in Previews. It appears that the Archie crossover will not be replacing the regular Tiny Titans comics on the schedule, meaning for four months we'll get double the usual TT goodness. Aww Yeah!
- At SDCC, Dan Didio revealed what many have always suspected, that DC's kids' comics lose money for the company. But he also affirmed DCE's commitment to publish titles aimed towards younger readers regardless.
- Also at SDCC, Didio said that there is a DC Kids version of the DC Comics App in the works. This seems like an excellent idea, especially if they keep the cost of the digital comics at 99¢. They have so much past material to draw from, and most of the stories are single-issue or less.
- Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam! is indeed ending, going out with a two-parter.
- Batman: The Brave and the Bold is being replaced on the schedule with The All-New Batman: The Brave and the Bold. The new series will team up Batman with bigger names from the DCU, such as Superman and Captain Marvel, rather than the B- and C-listers. While I must admit that I prefer seeing the far reaches of the DCU explored, I'm fairly confident that the new creative team of Sholly Fisch & Rick Burchett will give us fun and interesting stories.
- Also, we learned that the current season of the Batman: The Brave and the Bold cartoon will be the last. There are fourteen remaining episodes to air. But a Young Justice cartoon is in the works, and I will not be surprised to see a tie-in comic for that show once it debuts.

Commentary:
* The movie opens today, but Scott Pilgrim still cannot wrestle the top slot from the upcoming new Wimpy Kid volume. It's pretty close though; WK is at #20 on the overall list, while SP is at #24, 30, 36, & 42.I would not be surprised to see Scott Pilgrim slink back into the top spot over the weekend if the movie is received well.
* I continue to be surprised by the fact that the home video release of Kick-Ass continues to stoke interest in the collection. (Note that it is at #270 on the overall list, meaning there is a huge sales gap between spots 5 & 6 on the list).
* The University Effect is now in full swing, with Persepolis, Maus, Understanding Comics, Fun Home, Watchmen, and The Dark Knight Returns all landing prominently high on the list.
* The highest debut belongs to Fables spin-off Cinderella: From Fabletown with Love, with the newest Buffy volume close behind. Also debuting are the latest volumes of Maximum Ride and The Unwritten.
