Commentary:

  • Batman: The Killing Joke takes the top slot for the seventh week in a row.
  • The college book -buying season is definitely underway, with Persepolis & Fun Home in the #2 & #3 slots, and Maus & American Born Chinese moving up the charts.
  • How strong is the other-media effect on comic sales? The top (non-Injustice) debut this week is Phoebe Gloeckner's The Diary of a Teenage Girl, the film adaptation of which has started rolling out in the art cinema circuit around the country. That gets a review in the New York Times, which drives people to check out the source material.
  • Also debuting the week are a few manga volumes: new volumes of Naruto, along with volumes of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure & Monster Masume.
  • Another sign of the power of movie adaptations: the trailer for the Deadpool movie came out this week, and the Deadpool by Daniel Way collection shoots up into the top ten. From the trailer. For some reason, anticipation of Marvel movies seems to drive comic sales far more than the movies themselves; note that Civil War has been in the top ten for a while now.
  • But there's no sign of any interest in Fantastic Four material...
