Top Comic Book Movies of 2020

Here are the domestic grosses of comic book-related movies released in 2020, according to Box Office Mojo:

  1. Birds of Prey: $84M
  2. Wonder Woman 1984: $46M
  3. The New Mutants: $24M
  4. My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising: $13M
  5. Bloodshot: $13M
  6. The Empty Man: $3M
  7. Lupin III: The First: $0.1M

Obviously COVID-19 restrictions played havoc with the movie release schedule in 2020. Of the movies above, only Birds of Prey was released before the pandemic lockdowns hit, with Bloodshot being particularly unlucky as it was released on March 13 right before widespread lockdowns were enacted. Most wide-release, tent-pole movies were delayed and delayed and delayed again, until 2021 (or perhaps later). Wonder Woman 1984 was released to both theaters and HBO Max on December 25, while the long-delayed The New Mutants was finally dumped into theaters in August.

Movies 'scheduled' for release in 2021 include: Demon Slayer- Kimetsu no Yaiba (April); Black Widow (July); The Suicide Squad (Aug); Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (Sep); Venom: Let There Be Carnage (Sep); The Addams Family 2 (Oct); Eternals (Nov); Spider-Man: No Way Home (Dec); The King's Men (Dec).

(Moreso than previous years, this schedule is subject to change!)
