Commentary:

• Guess which movie opened at #1? Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy rules the box office and also takes charge of the Amazon comics chart. Guardians of the Galaxy by Abnett & Lanning: The Complete Collection Volume 1 leaps to the #1 slot and is #75 on the overall Amazon books chart. There are five GotG collections in the top 50, including three of the top ten; and two Thanos/Infinty Gauntlet books show up as well.
• Conventional wisdom has been that comic sales increase before a movie is released, but then quickly fall off after. That is clearly not the case for Guardians, and was also not the case this year for Captain America: The Winter Soldier and X-Men: Days of Future Past. It's time to reconsider that conventional wisdom...
• College students will be returning to class over the next month, and we're starting to see the University Effect take hold again: Persepolis, Maus, Fun Home, American Born Chinese and Understanding Comics once again start to move up the chart.
