Monkey Covers

Sunday is Monkey Covers day here at YACB. Because there's nothing better than a comic with a monkey on the cover.

From 1976 it's The Great Grape Ape #2 (artist unknown). That's right, a giant purple ape. Goodness but I loved this cartoon when I was a kid.

(standard disclaimer about giant apes not really being monkeys applies)

I, being a child of the 70s, remember The Great Grape Ape cartoon. I used to watch it but can't say that I loved it. I think I liked "Dyno-Mutt" more. I remember a cartoon called "Devlin", who was a stunt rider (cashing in on the Evel Knievel thing-- I had that action figure [by Kenner]. It had wire inside of it instead of jointed pieces. It was almost like the real Evel.) Of course, I liked the SuperFriends more because that involved superheroes.... thanks for opening the floodgates of my 70s Saturday morning memories. :-)

Man, I hadn't thought about Grape Ape in years. I don't recall ever reading the comic but I have fond memories of the silly cartoon show.

Now I'm suddenly feeling the need to dig out some of those old DC comics with Gorilla Grodd bedeviling The Flash and, of course, anything featuring Beppo the Super-Monkey :-)
