Once again we've put the worldwide box office figures in parentheses, where you can see that many (most?) movies now do the bulk of their business overseas.

It was an... okay year for comic book movies. James Gunn's Superman was well received, drawing mostly good reviews and decent box office (though only half of last year's top comic book movie, Deadpool & Wolverine). Marvel released three films, all of which failed to reach the box office highs of many previous MCU films though none were outright duds.

Kid-aimed fare Dog Man and Smurfs didn't light up the charts, though Smurfs, while tanking domestically, did much better overseas.

This year's biggest surprise was Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle, which was the top comic book movie worldwide and did boffo domestically, especially for an R-rated animated movie. (For comparison, last year's Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To the Hashira Training did just $18M domestically.) Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc (also R-rated) also pulled in a very respectable domestic take; and while other anime releases didn't make much noise (with Witch Watch: Watch Party—a compilation of the first episodes of the series not even having box office figure reported), any U.S. ticket sales are really just extra icing.

M.I.A. this year were Red Sonja—which ended up being released direct to streaming—and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle: The Last Ronin, which has reportedly been halted as the studio has decided against releasing an adult-focused movie for what has traditionally been kid's fare at the theater.

Movies scheduled for release in 2026 include: Lupin the IIIrd: The Movie – The Immortal Bloodline (Jan); Fruits Basket - prelude- (Feb); 4 Kids Walk Into a Bank (Apr); Supergirl (Jun); Spider-Man: Brand New Day (Jul); Clayface (Sep); Avengers: Doomsday (Dec); Rogue Trooper (TBA); The Dangers in My Heart (TBA).
